This week we take a look at a somewhat random group of watches from Ulysse Nardin, Audemars Piguet, and Chopard. I say random because these three watches really do not have much in common. We have a minute repeater, a tourbillon and a uniquely shaped automatic mechanical.

Audemars Piguet 4101

The 4101 in the name of this watch referrers to the in-house movement designed by Audemars Piguet.

One of my favorite features about this watch is that you can see through half of the watch.

At first glance, it looks like there is a tourbillon inside but it is actually a really cool balance wheel that you can see moving around.

The oval shape of this watch actually fits a variety of wrists extremely well and grabs peoples attention.

Looking closer at the watch you see a really great looking oval shaped dial to match the watches case.

The numbers are different sizes which actually makes the watch even more aesthetically pleasing and fun to look at.

The retail price on this watch is $24,000, and trades today for around $14,000 — $15,000 brand new.

Chopard Tourbillon Set

This set comes in a very nice box and actually has very good usability. For a luxury gift item, this is a really great set.

The gift box comes with: (extra 30k for the set)

  • Chopard L.U.C. Tourbillon Watch
  • Pen with a nice diamond set
  • Ring
  • Cufflinks to match the ring
  • Comes with prayer beads — take on their happy diamonds collection. Onyx and rose gold combo.

The reasons for the assortment in this set is because it is targeted at Arabic men.

Traditional dress for an Arabic man only allows for a watch, cufflinks, ring and a pen in the pocket — and they can carry the prayer beads.

The Chopard L.U.C. Tourbillon Watch can be purchased alone as well.

By itself, the watch goes for around $130,000 and for the set add an extra $30,000.

The price of the watch is very reasonable when compared to other tourbillons. The reason for this is that Chopard makes their own movements and therefore is able to keep prices down.

The next question you are going to ask is if a set like this will keep its value?

The answer is absolutely not.

First off, Chopard watches traditionally do not hold their value very well.

In fact, you can get this complete box set for around $50,000 to $60,000.

Ulysse Nardin Strangers in the Night

The design team at Ulysse Nardin used a mechanical musical box like you would see from the old days to actually play the Frank Sinatra classic “Strangers in the Night”.

This is a unique watch complication to have a music player on the dial.

To get the song to play, you have to wind the crown backward.

This then activates the music player on the face to rotate and strike the notes as it moves around.

If you are a Frank Sinatra fan and have an extra hundred grand to spend on a watch than this is a great piece for you!

The design is very innovative, very creative, and will make a great conversation piece.

Ulysse Nardin Strangers in the Night

To get this watch, expect to pay $120,000 brand new from a boutique.

It is a limited edition of 99 pieces and comes in platinum and gold.

If you ask me, it seems like it retails for too much.

The market rate reflects my opinion and you can pick it up to 30–40% discount.
