One of the fields where Rolex wasn’t traditionally active was the complicated watch sector. The company had launched some references with interesting functions in time, but always as specific tasks in a single dedicated watch.
This approach has dramatically changed with the introduction of the Sky-Dweller, the first complicated Rolex watch featuring an annual calendar and date display, along with a second time zone.
Not only the Sky-Dweller offers all of this: it also controls the different regulations of its movement through an innovative (and highly-patented) mechanism using the crown and the rotation of its fluted dial in three different positions.
This concept, called “Ring Command,” is not new in Rolex timepieces, as it has also been used to regulate the functions of the Yacht-Master II, launched in 2007.
The Sky-Dweller mounts a specific caliber developed for it, the 9001 movement. As every high-end Rolex caliber, it comes with a COSC certificate, and it is regulated to achieve a “Superlative Chronometer” performance of +/-2 seconds per day.
The automatic 9001 movement is equipped with the usual Rolex anti-magnetic features: the Parachrom blue hairspring and an escapement wheel of paramagnetic material. It also features a high power reserve of three days (72 hours).
The annual calendar of the Sky-Dweller needs to be adjusted just once per year, in February. Thanks to the Sky-Dweller’s 24-hour scale, it’s also effortless to distinguish night from day.
The watch comes in a big 42 mm Oyster case, and it’s water-resistant up to 100 meters. It is available in five different references, with various metals for the case (stainless steel, bimetal, Everose gold, yellow gold and white gold), and either an Oyster bracelet or a wristband.
The reference 326934 of the Sky-Dweller is its basic model, in stainless steel, and is available with different dials (white, champagne, black,) with baton indices.
It starts from around $16,000 with the Oyster bracelet. The blue-dial, however, is the most sought after and is currently priced around $24,000.

Still, some models come with Roman or Arabic numerals. It starts from around $40,000, up to $44,000 for the rarer new models coming with a chocolate or sundust dial, and an Oyster bracelet.
