Destroying $100,000 Worth of Watches!!
Today, we are going to destroy a Hublot Big Bang, Omega Chronograph, and a Rolex GMT. This is over $100,000 worth of watches right here that we are about to smash with a hammer.
Well, it would be over $100,000 worth of watches if they were real.
These are all fakes!
This is what I want to talk to you about today, the fake watch market and the lengths these guys are going to in order to rip off the big brands.
I had one of my team members go to a super secret Chinese knock-off watch website to find some knock-off watches.
To really illustrate how I feel about these phony watches, I am going to smash them with a hammer!
A bit dramatic? Maybe. But the fact is that there are a lot of guys out there ripping off designer watches and making good money doing it.
Two kinds of fake watches
Why did we make such a big deal about smashing these watches with a hammer? Well, that is because there are a lot of fake watches out there.
The guys making these watches are fooling unsuspecting customers into purchasing their knockoff watches.
The ones we just smashed up are from a website that advertises the watches as fakes or ‘replica’ watches and does not try to hide the fact they are not real.
While this doesn’t sit right with me either, at least they are being honest about the product they are selling and not trying to fool customers.

On the other hand, there are the guys that do this maliciously.
They will buy a real watch and take it to a manufacturer where they replicate the watch down to the serial numbers stamped on the watch.
Next, they buy boxes and papers to complete the look that the watch is authentic.
Finally, they turn around and sell that watch for full price as if it was real.
The latter is worse in my mind because they are charging full price rates for a phony watch.
Not to say the replica guys are good, but at least they put it out there that their watches are fakes and charge a much cheaper price.
Why do people buy fake watches?
The mentality of buying a fake watch that gets to me is that the guy buying a knock-off of an expensive watch and pretending that they actually own an expensive watch.
That mentality just rubs me the wrong way.
The reason for this is because these guys lack originality and are taking away from the Swiss watch industry.
These brands spend lots of money developing movements and perfecting the stying of each watch.
For someone to come along and rip this off take away from all the hard work the brand has done.
How do you know if you are buying a fake
If it is too good to be true, it usually is not true.
If you are getting offered a watch for 30–50% market price than there is usually something fishy going on.
There are databases that all the major watch brands offer where you can run the serial number to the watch to ensure it is real.
Before you purchase a watch that is priced too good to be true, check with a dealer (like us) to verify that the watch is authentic.
Why you shouldn’t buy a fake watch
If you are going to spend a few hundred dollars on a fake watch why not put that money towards a name brand watch in the same price point?
There are plenty of watches out there that are super high quality, from long-standing companies, that are real and in the $200 to $500 price range.
